The Golden Eagles’ defense hardly let East quarterback Dominic Webb breathe — let alone pass — sacking him six times in the first half on the way to a 42-0 lead at the break. The final was 56-0.
“We knew we had to work on the pass rush because (Webb) can throw and they’ve got good athletes that can get down the field,” Carroll coach Alan Schuckman said. “We knew we had to get pressure on (Webb). I think people underestimate us a little bit on our team speed.”
“We knew he was an athletic quarterback, somebody who could move around and do things,” said Carroll linebacker Jarrett Johnson, who finished with 2 1/2 sacks. “And we got to him.”
“We watched a lot of film, saw they had some athletes,” said Carroll safety Mark Quaney, who had two fumble recoveries. “We had a spy on their quarterback and the guys up front kept getting to him.”
