It has been almost ten years, but Wichita East is headed back to the 6A State playoffs after beating Wichita Southeast 24-0.
“We set out to make this our goal from the start,” East Head Coach Brian Byers said. “We struggled here and there but we made it.”
In order to make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2006, East would have to take down Southeast, who was also a win away from a playoff spot.
The Blue Aces would jump out to an early 14-0 lead, thanks to two…Continue

Even when fully healthy, the East football team likes to run spread formations on offense and spend most of its time throwing the ball.
That became even more magnified Thursday night at Carpenter Stadium after starting running back Calil Burnett injured his ankle last week and was unavilable.
Dominic Webb threw for 278 yards and six touchdowns in East’s 50-7 victory over North in District 7 play. Joseph Patrick caught five passes for 124 yards and four touchdowns.

East quarterback Dominic Webb spent the first three quarters against Heights terrorizing the Falcons’ defense. The senior slipped tackles, eluded potential sacks and chucked a couple of touchdown passes, to boot.
Heights defensive back D’Aunte McPhaul put a stop to that in one play.
The senior’s second interception set up the second of Rodney Murphy’s two rushing touchdowns with 2:24 left to play, pushing Heights past upset-minded East 23-13 at Heights Field.

Burnett had turned a play of nothing into a 66-yard touchdown, the finishing touches on East’s first victory of the season in a 27-8 win over South on Friday night at Carpenter Stadium.
“I love turning on the speed on the football field,” Burnett said. “It’s just an amazing feeling when you’re running all by yourself like that.”…

The Golden Eagles’ defense hardly let East quarterback Dominic Webb breathe — let alone pass — sacking him six times in the first half on the way to a 42-0 lead at the break. The final was 56-0.
“We knew we had to work on the pass rush because (Webb) can throw and they’ve got good athletes that can get down the field,” Carroll coach Alan Schuckman said. “We knew we had to get pressure on (Webb). I think people underestimate us a little bit on our team speed.”
“We knew he was an…Continue
The play was breaking down from the time Kapaun quarterback Brock Monty received the exchange from under center.
With just under five minutes to play in the first half and head coach Dan Adelhardt rolling the dice on a fourth-and-six from East’s 20-yard line, Monty rolled to his left under heavy pressure. As the pocket collapsed…

It was 6 p.m. Sunday when East football coach Brian Byers sent quarterback Dominic Webb and a handful of receivers home. They had spent the previous five hours at Byers’ house watching video from Friday’s loss to Kapaun Mount Carmel, along with college football games on TV.
“This is what they’ve been doing since last spring,” Byers said. “We have not had football junkies before. It was always that football was second to them.
“But this is what they do. We took them to 7-on-7…Continue

The Titans, who lost their first seven games last season before beating Campus in district play, must replace quarterback Dominic Webb, who transferred to East. Running backs Traveon Wells, Jeremiah Hudspeth and Jaqwan Binkley all played varsity last season. Sophomore receiver Skylar Ryce led the Titans in…Continue
